Painted pots, with patterns.

Here is a simple technique to brighten up some pots for spring....or any time of the year!

First find some tired old plant pots that need a new look. Clean them up, and make sure the surface is not greasy.

Mix white tile paint with a small amount of acrylic. This will give a soft pastel coloured paint. Add this to  your pot and allow to dry. You can paint the whole thing one colour, or do stripes.

When the paint is dry add some fabric or paper strips for detail. Stick them on with PVA glue. I used fabric bias strip for this one.

The next step is pattern. Find some plain pastel coloured and patterned papers. The shapes will be cut out with punches. Flower shapes, circles and heart shapes. For the gingham paper I simply scanned one colour and then did several alternatives using Photoshop.

When you have attached all the shapes, you need to seal everything in with at least 2 coats of clear varnish. I used a satin varnish.

Here are some other pots I completed using this technique.

The pot below had a row of thin pink fabric cord wrapped around it several times. It was attached with PVA glue.
