I sometimes love to do paintings, that are all about colour and texture. They have no theme, and are not pretending to be anything. They just are "themselves", a bit of creativity with paint.
This one has lots of different things happening, in terms of media and texture.
I shall show you the sections first, so you can see the techniques. Then the whole thing together.
The top of the painting, is all the pale colours. The first thing I did with this painting was to "draw" the sections by sticking on string and scrunched up bits of tissue paper, to make guide lines. I then put on the first layer of acrylic paint. I then added areas of toning colours, smudging the edges.
I collaged in some papers, dry brushed the surface and did some paint runs.
The middle section has similar techniques, but the colours are getting a bit less yellow and a bit more orangy-red. I have used pastel on the surface, and sealed it in with matt varnish. I have used crackle glaze and metallic paint.
The dark section at the bottom. Similar techniques to above, plus some scratching in to the paint surface.
So, here is the whole thing...
I framed it, with a nice chunky pine frame. It now hangs in my Dining room.
What do you think? Comments appreciated!
I love to do abstract works, as a break from my floral work and landscapes. I love to just play and experiment, knowing there are no rights and wrongs. Sometimes I revisit abstract works, months or even years later, and just add a whole new layer of detailing on to them.
