I am in cushion mode this week, for sure! Here is another one. I thought I would do something in neutral colours, as they always seem to be popular. I have several craft fairs lined up, so I must have enough stock.
I wanted to use texture, so found a selection of wools and some lace. One wool has a particularly tufted texture. The ball looks like a little fluffy hedgehog!
I used my embellisher to attach the wool and lace on to a soft white blanket type fabric. I kept adding strips of wool until it was well covered. I did wobbly lines, because you will never get them dead straight, so it is best to exaggerate the wobbly effect!! I then found some white net fabric. this one had a very slight glitter effect in it.
I put the embellisher away, and attached the net with the sewing machine. It is important to start in the middle and work outwards, evenly. You need to do a row of stitches about every 6cms, to attach the net . The purpose of the net is to keep everything in place. Embellishing is strong, but with long term use ( ie kids and pets! ) it can unravel a bit, and spoil the look of the cushion.
I then added some wool to the top surface, couching it with a zig zag stitch.
I mainly used the really textured ( hedgehog! ) wool. Initially the stitching flattened this a lot. However, once it was attached I used a needle to pull out lots of tufts all over the surface. I also pulled a few out that were under the net.
Here is the finished result, photographed in different lighting conditions, and as usual here it is with one of my cats....this time it is Brandy....who did not want to be photographed, as you can probably tell!

I sewed this front panel on to ready made cream cushion. Sometimes I make the rest of the cushion, and some times I don't.....! The result is a textured ,attractive, but durable product.
