Cushions. Jade green leaf pattern.

I decided to make some more cushions today. I have always loved the colour jade green. However the fabric I wanted to work with was a bit too thin for a cushion cover. I used spray on fabric glue, and strengthened it a bit with some plain white backing fabric.

I used some contrasting apple green fabric to make some strips. I did several lines of wobbly stitching on them. This is to make stems on my design.

I then attached these on to my fabric.

Next was to make some leaves. I drew some shapes out on to Bondaweb. Then I chose 3 offcuts of matching fabric, with a simple pattern on. These are to make the leaves.

I ironed the leaf shapes on to the back of my fabrics. I cut them all out and then attached them to my main cushion front, along the stems.

To complete the look, and to secure the leaves, I machine stitched a blanket stitch around each leaf. I like this stitch, as it gives the design a rustic homemade sort of look. It probably looks better still if you do it by hand, with nice thick embroidery cotton.  But with this many leaves to do, sorry, I haven't got the time or patience!!

Now it's time to sew this all together. I shall have a jade green back, and a lime green satin ribbon style edge. Oh! but everything has to stop here, as Pepper has come to take over!

I seem to have a lot of buttons, so am adding them to all my cushions at the moment. I have put two different green ones on these, to tone in with all the other colours used.

The finished cushions, and here is Pepper, again, posing infront of them this time!

I have now sold these cushions, at a craft fair. They were popular, and attracted a lot of interest. Therefore I shall be making some similar ones soon.
